Mount Rushmore Sculpture Workshop Summer 2009

I would like to invite you and your family to participate in FREE sculpture workshops offered this summer at Mount Rushmore National Memorial. It is an honor and privilege to be this summer's sculptor in residence for the third year! I am now coordinating summer workshops with Rhonda Schier our acting Chief of Interpretation.

Students will focus on the art of clay portraiture and mold making. They will learn technique, safety, design and tool progression. Other workshops will offer alabaster stone carving. Participants will also gain an appreciation for portraiture and the history of Mount Rushmore. All tools and supplies will be provided. No experience with sculpture is required, just an interest in the work.

Week long workshops will be offered to ages 12 and up from 9am until 3:30pm for five days. Kids 16 and under require an adult with them. We will be working outside in the Borglum Terrace so be prepared for all weather. Students will be responsible for their own transportation to and from Mount Rushmore, students will be responsible for their own lunches and snacks. Please fill out the registration form on our web site www.nps.gov/moru/ and email, mail or fax it to Mt. Rushmore.
